Spreading Good Cheer

11/6/2019

As we approach the holiday season we are called to think about what we are thankful for and how we can spread happiness and good cheer in the world. The Metz family here at Roberts are so grateful to be able to serve not only the students and staff of Robert Weselyan but the larger community as well. We have participated in clothing and supply drives for local school and donate extra food to a local shelter that students from the In Jesus’ Name student ministry volunteers at. To further our spirit of giving we are holding our Annual Holiday Pie Sale and donating the profits to the Roberts Wesleyan College chapter of Relay for Life. In order to learn more about the lengths these students and volunteers are going to I talked to the Event Lead Emily.

Emily got involved with Relay for Life after meeting the Event Lead of that year’s relay event and was impressed with all of the hard work and amazing success of the students who were involved. As well, cancer had been prevalent in her family and friends so this was a cause she really felt connected to. She never thought that she would become the Event Lead but she is thankful for the amazing opportunity to make a difference.

For those who don’t know Relay for Life is a community based fundraising event, however, you can always donate your time and money before and after the actual event. All of the money raised goes directly to the American Cancer Society to help fund the various contributions they have towards the battle against cancer. The event itself is a fun and active way to fundraise and to learn about the cause and those affected. It includes three different ceremonies, one for survivors, one for those who we’ve lost, and one for everyone who has been affected by cancer in one way or another.

If you’d like to get involved with Relay for Life or the partnering group Colleges Against Cancer, please email springer_emily@roberts.edu and she’ll get you set up.

To order a pie look for me at the Annual Pie Sale Table during lunch on December 4th or complete your purchase at the registers up until December 10th. The pies will be available for pick up on December 12th at Garlock. We will have Pumpkin, Southern Pecan, and Deep Dish Apple Pie available for order so there is plenty of variety for the whole family.

This is a season of giving and being thankful for what we have. What are you thankful for?
